London Fashion Week: David Koma’s new womenswear collection
Athleticism and old Hollywood pin-up glamour came together in this high-energy, high-glamour collection.
Synonymous with skin-tight silhouettes, David Koma’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection celebrated the feminine form with sculptural styles and contouring cuts. The show was set at London Aquatics Centre, and mood was sporty yet luxurious.
With an incredible biography to mention, Koma discovered his penchant for dress design at the young age of eight. David also studied Fine Art in St. Petersburg, showing his first collection at the age of 15. In 2003, David moved to London to take up a place at the prestigious Central Saint Martins, graduating with a distinction in MA Fashion in April 2009 under the mentorship of the late Professor Louise Wilson, OBE. He launched his eponymous label soon after and has gone to reach astronomical success, having recently caught the eye of some celebrities – including Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, and Beyoncé – who have all shown off his creations on the red carpet.
“We worked on transforming swimwear into day wear and evening wear; modernizing it, using strong colours but with a minimalistic approach,” Koma said. “The colour palette was important this season because I really felt like coming back from all those hardcore times, we just needed the injection of bright, beautiful colours.” He added.
he super powerful and inspiring lineup began with a fresh take on traditional one-piece swimsuits, complete with cutouts galore and a strong colour palette. The showcase ended with a series of ultra-glam gowns, featuring glitz, feathers and neon shades aplenty. Moreover, models’ beauty looks were opted for shimmery makeup and heavily gelled.
