Fendi Spring 2022 Women’s Collection
Fendi opened the Milan Fashion Week with disco-glam-inspired womenswear.
Milan Fashion Week opened with 42 live runway shows and 56 in-person presentations. It is considered the most incredible fashion show since the pandemic struck Italy.
The event took place under archways reminiscent of the Roman fashion house, the Palazzo Della Civiltà and, between columns made of mirror, the scene was unmistakably Fendi, which played to a disco beat.
The 1970s echoed down the Fendi runway, with prints, motifs and colours carried by modern silhouettes, during the second collection by womenswear creative director Kim Jones.
The house described it as “a joyful exploration of the Fendi’s signature irreverence, offering a modern perspective on disco-age glamour brimming with powerful, effortless femininity,”. Experimenting with the traditional intarsia technique, Fendi created stunning graphic patterns and showcased a contemporary reinvention of the brand’s signature savoir-faire.
Kim Jones could perfectly and beautifully balance the signature Fendi style codes with a powerful vision of modernity.
“Our woman has let loose a bit – she’s going out, dressing up. We’ve all been locked away for so long that’s what we all need right now.” Kim Jones said.
Inspired by the fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez, Jones reimagined Lopez’s work. He exaggerated brushstrokes on kaftans and silk shirts and took Lopez’s drawings to turn them into intarsia leather thigh-highs and intricately.
