Fendi & Versace joint to create a new collection
Versace by Fendi and Fendi by Versace, the union of the two great houses to celebrate Italian fashion.
By the end of Milan’s Spring 2022 fashion week, the two luxury fashion houses joined forces to create “Fendace”. The collections saw Fendi directors Kim Jones and Silvia Venturini Fendi design 25 Versace looks, while Donatella Versace corresponded with 25 Fendi outfits.
The first to take the proverbial stage were Fendi designers, as the Versace show opened with two icons: supermodel Kristen McMenamy in an ode to Elizabeth Hurley’s infamous all-black look. The gold and black garments were as far as the eye could see, as were Fendi’s geometric double F logo and Versace’s Greek motif in the form of eye-catching patterns and jewels.
Then it was Fendi by Versace, which took a more colourful approach but continued the logo-mania theme that has become synonymous with luxury home collaborations. The midriffs were the ultimate accessory, as the models wore cropped tops and low-rise pants, and the caps with the Versace insignia.
Celebrating the two iconic houses, the show saw a star-studded group of front-row attendees, including Gigi Hadid, Dua Lipa, Winnie Harlow, and Evan Mock, among others. Meanwhile, the runway featured some of the biggest names in fashion, including iconic Naomi Campbell, Kristen McMenamy and Kate Moss, Emily Ratajkowski, Irina Shayk and Amber Valletta.
“With the archives fully opened to both, a unique cross-fertilization occurs, with elements transposed from each house; at heart remains a deep admiration for the codes and cultures of both, together with a mutual encouragement for the designers to be themselves. Needless to say, the results could only be achieved with fundamental respect and reciprocal trust. Ultimately, Fendace is about the need for sincerity in fashion today rather than strategy.” The show notes on behalf of the two brands explained.
